I remember when JLo broke out as a singer in in 1999 with “If You Had My Love”. I was a Senior in University, living in New York, and working three jobs-a make up artist, a marketeer, and working the dormitory security office.
One look at those bronzed legs, immaculate face, and curvy figure, and I had an instant girl crush. From that moment on, I was hooked on following her beauty and wardrobe looks! I remember having my mom look for a beaded shawl that I could wear over my white jeans, just like JLo had on in the below video.
What I have learned in the past 20 years about getting a “JLo Glow”- a little goes a long way! Also, there is no substitute for great skin as this is the beginning of your canvas.
Step 1-Use a priming product to create a smooth base for your products. Glow-y products have a tendency to make pores appear larger, therefore, if you have any texture or pore issues, this is a must. I really like this primer from Too Faced
Step 2-Apply cream highlighter over liquid foundation and set with powder or powder highlighter over powder. Never apply cream highlighter over powder or powder foundation unless it is a very premium product(I even struggle to find these). This will cause the make up to move or smear and look patchy. My favourite highlighters are below ranging from budget to lux:
Step 3- Apply to the highpoints of the face(bridge of nose, top of cheeks, middle of forehead, cupid’s bow). I like to use a fan brush
Have a look at one of my fave YouTube MUA’s for a great tutorial on how to apply highlighter!
What are your favourite highlighters?
Would love to hear how this worked for you!
Lots of love,
